What I Ate for Cheat Day

Cheat Day 1

One of my goals for this year is to focus on eating clean, eating less junk food, and eating smaller meals throughout the day instead of three huge meals. Now, I am still breastfeeding my son, so I am often ravenously hungry. The ravenous hunger would propel me to eat all kinds of junk foods or fatty foods because I was always trying to make myself feel FULL.

Since I plan on weaning my son next month when he turns one, I have already started to curb my appetite. That being said, the junk food cravings are POWERFUL. I decided rather than go completely cold turkey and cut them out for good (which I’ve done before and eventually backtracked on) I would pick one glorious day out of the month where I could eat whatever I wanted with no guilt: Cheat day. Or treat yo’ self day, whatever your fancy.

How I Survived Until Cheat Day

Once I pick my day, which this month I chose the middle of January, I mark it on my personal planner and on our family calendar on the fridge. Whenever I get a craving for something, I add it to a notepad on my phone. This month I had written:

  • Donuts (CHOCOLATE!!!)
  • Nachos
  • Burger and cheese curds
  • Ice cream

Whenever I craved one of those foods, I would just look at my calendar and count how many more days I had to go. To be honest, I only had a few cravings and only counted down the days a couple times. I surprised myself by not having nearly as strong a desire for the junk food once I had already told my self I could have it, just not right now. Delayed gratification, my friends!

Cheat Day Foods

Sadly, the day I had picked to eat all the amazing-tasting-but-not-so-amazing-for-you foods, the south was hit with 5-6 inches of snow. So instead of my pre-planned day of feasting, I had to kinda spread out my foods. I felt like I should still allow myself to eat everything I had craved, even if it wasn’t all on the same day. Hopefully next month there will be no snow to mess with my nachos!

Like the very hungry caterpillar, let me list out what I had throughout the week:

  • Chocolate Frosted Donuts |Walmart Bakery
  • Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream | Halo Top
  • Beef n’ Cheddar Sandwich and Mozzarella Sticks | Arby’s
  • Shredded Chicken Nachos | Que Bueno

The Arby’s did not get photographed because by the time my hubby brought it home, I promptly devoured it without a second thought. Boy were those mozzo sticks GOOD, though!
